Yesterday I arrived in Wiesbaden Germany for the first international Joomla developers conference – J and Beyond.
First day is over and it has been a wonderful day of meeting lot’s of interesting Joomla experts from private and large web development agencies, self employed consultants and the founders and project leaders behind Joomla. I’m not too experienced with Joomla, however getting to know the guys at this conference, I can say a lot of talent can be found among this great group of developers.

I think that the most interesting aspect that I got to learn of is the strong business orientation of the Joomla community and extensions developers. Metting many companies and agencies that are solely based on the extensions they create, more often it’s a single extension that drive the whole business.
The numbers are really interesting as well; there are more than 200k live Joomla websites according to builtwith, and according to Google Trends Joomla is as widespread and trendy as WordPress.

Finally got to meet the person behind FlexiContent and learned of the guys that extended the Kaltura Joomla Plugin to be used with FlexiContent. This has great potential and I hope they’ll be able to extend further and implement integration for the next upcoming version of the Kaltura Joomla Plugin.

My key session of today? Utilizing Social Media by Alex and Jack Bremer, check it out later on the website session recordings.

My talk will be tomorrow at 16:30 (Germany time), where I plan to discuss the role of online video and the infrastructure the Kaltura Platform provides. Hopefully the internet connection will permit and we’ll be able to built a full Joomla website in less than an hour including authentic interview videos from J and Beyond. Stick by or watch the recording later on the J and Beyond website to learn more about Kaltura and the Kaltura Joomla Plugin.

Enjoy a few interviews I had today with some of the Joomla experts around.
